Yorkshire Terriers
No one really knows why, but small dogs tend to suffer from neurotic behaviour more often than large breeds and Yorkshire Terriers are no exception.
If your Yorkie exhibits neurotic behaviour such as spinning around or biting themselves it is very important to check into what has specifically triggered this behaviour.
Ask family members if they noticed anything happen to the dog to trigger the behaviour and think back to when it originally started. It maybe that there were changes in the house that triggered him off or a change in who looks after him or spends the most time with him. Even a visit to the vets where he has been handled differently can cause this. Any change in the dogs normal routine can trigger neurotic behaviour so it is very important find out why he is doing this.
Rather than seek outside help which may be costly try and cope with the behaviour at home.
Unquestionably the most important thing to do is to make your Yorkie feel secure and loved and you may want to limit the amount of people that are around your dog during the day and shower him with additional love to make him feel more secure.
Should you have recently introduced another dog into the home then this maybe the cause for his change in behaviour. So it may also be an idea to keep him away from other dogs for a short time so he has more ‘one on one’ attention. Remember dogs are extremely territorial and Yorkshire Terriers are certainly not excluded and another dog may well threaten their position in the home.
To get your dog back to normal as soon as possible spend as much time with him as you can and shower him with plenty of love and attention at all times.
